O2 mobile insurance

How to get it? Web says in-store or call. I cannot get anyone to answer my call or even get on Chat! With so many angry customers complaining/affected about O2's network outage, everything else is at a standstill. Very very disappointing O2.

Ok, the rundown is as follows:

If you buy a new iPhone 4, 4S, 5 online/telesales the phone has come from CPW and o2 won't insure a phone that didn't come from them.

If you buy in-store, O2 handles the phone and will therefore offer to insure it.  As far as I know, the iPhone 5 insurance is £12.50 a month.

Non iPhones purchased in store, online, telesales are sent out by O2 and they'll offer insurance on these phones.

Hope that helps.

A lot of people have been disappointed (to say the least) with the o2 insurance. Most will suggest either looking at your home insurance as it may be covered or through the bank.

There are alternatives out there which others will recommend based on their experiences. I have the American Express gadget one for £9.99 per month which includes all my gadgets and other personal items though on electronic items, it has to be 3 years or younger. Which means its an ideal time for a tech refresh wink

Thank you for your response. It is somewhat helpful to know there are other options of insurance out there but O2 has offered their mobile phone insurance specifically for mobile phones purchased from O2 at a relatively "cheap" monthly cost of £6/mth. I would like to insure my new iPhone 5 & don't have many other gadgets or expensive electronics. Plus, I am very dependant on my mobile phone, as are many others I believe.

So, I'm simply trying to find out how to get on the O2 mobile insurance because it is "advertised"/offered on posters/brochures/O2 web etc. but instructions on how to buy the insurance are very vague. In fact, I spent many hours trying to call O2, then went to the shop & was told it cannot be done in-store, only by phone. The store assistant was nice enough to help me call O2 & after a long wait, finally I got through & was told the insurance peeps were not in (it was Sunday) & asked me to call again on Monday, giving me a specific number, not the 202. So I called again on Monday & the "insurance peeps" told me to go get the insurance in-store & they don't do it over the phone. Really??? Are you kidding me???

Thank you, I've checked O2's "How You Get It" already. Still no insurance.

No one was answering my call to Tel no. 202 & even when someone finally did, I was diverted in all possible directions but O2 themselves. The latest diversion is to a website "www.geeksquad.co.uk"- They seem to do mobile insurance for phones purchased from Carphone Warehouse. I'll call them tomorrow & see how that goes.

How do I buy O2 Mobile Insurance?

Check out the insurance policies and prices.

If you are a Pay Monthly Customer - simply ask in-store or call O2 Customer Services.

What you need to know

  • Once you buy or upgrade to a new mobile, you've got 28 days to get O2 insurance.
  • You have to be with O2 and over 18 to get one of our insurance policies.

I have the view that mobile phone insurance is expensive and I have mine insured via my bank account.

However, insurance of some sort is essential for peace of mind and you never know when you will need it. Fifteen pounds sounds expensive but lose your phone and the cost pales into insignificance compared to the cost of a new phone.

Ultimately if you are happy with the cost and the service then that's all that matters.
