O2 are in Breach of the Data Protection Act

Why has O2 passed on my mobile phone number to Sky ? They are bombarding me with unwanted calls.  This also breaches the Data Protection Act.

Sorry, it doesn't breach the Data Protection Act at all.

O2 have sold off the Broadband side of their business to Sky and as a result of that your contract and your details have been passed to Sky. You should have recieved information about this.

Sky will be contacting you for various reasons.

Of course, if you dont have broadband with O2 or can tell me which part of the Data Protection Act has been broken then we can probably give you some advice.

That does not give Sky the right to bombard me with unwanted phone calls.

I may have broadband with O2 soon to be Sky.

But my mobile phone is with O2, Not Sky and my mobile phone number

should not have been passed to Sky.

Hi kayjaybee,

You must have your mobile number registered to your broadband account which unfortuantely does allow Sky to call you as this is the contact number they have for you.

I think your complaint is with Sky to be honest as it is them that's calling you, not O2.

As the previous poster correctly states your mobile number is more than likely associated with the broadband package so as part of Skys acquisition of our service they have also legally obtained the details of all our customers. No laws have been broken here so if you no longer wish to receive these calls from Sky you need to contact them unfortunately.

I work for O2 but my comments and opinions posted here are solely my own and do not reflect those of Telefonica.

Once i heard the o2 sold Broadband to Sky, i contacted sky direct as i have Sky TV and got a better deal than waiting for the takeover of my BB account.

i.e. as i also have o2 mobile i was paying £12.50 a month for BB, but moving direct to sky and adding it to my sky TV package i am now getting 6 months free and then £7.50 a month for BB.

but to OP, no DPA breach as your o2 BB contract is now with Sky and not o2, so all your contact details would be passed to Sky
