O2 Forcing All Customers onto the New Price Rises

O2 has confirmed to ISPreview that they’re also emailing existing mobile customers to forcibly move them to the new pricing policy, albeit with a right to exit their contract as a result. This is as opposed to the usual approach, where such changes only occur for new customers or via natural re-contracting at the end of a contract term. We don’t think VMO2 are going to win too many adoring fans with this one

Personally I hope for a mass exodus

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

The 1.80 increase works out at 30% on my bill so I’ll be looking elsewhere

@Steevo

I would recommend looking around as all the networks are doing this on new contracts..

I would recommend looking at the likes of giffgaff (o2), Spusu (EE), and Lebara (Voda).. much cheaper than the Network Offerings...   uSwitch and Money Supermarket are your friends

I think I have been missed out (so far) by this because when I took my current deal it said no price increase until 2026 (I think)...

Either that or my email has not reached the top of the pile to send it to!

Same. No email as yet.

@gmarkj Doubt the no price rise to 2026 will faze them. It seems it's pay up or get lost

I've just received the email, which I was delighted to receive as I've been trying to leave o2 for months but they have been ignoring my complaints.

I have requested a PAC and it states my early termination fee will be £0.00 (which I persume is because I'm within the 30 day period of receiving the email), however on the upgrades page it states:

Your contract ends on 23 November 2025. You can switch to a shorter sim only plan, or end your contract early, by paying £231.39.

Should I assume the text message is up to date and proceed without contacting o2?

@jason87

The email tells you to call up o2 rather than just requesting the PAC to cancel, as technically it should be £0.00 but if you have a device plan this still needs to be paid off.

Checked my bills today and they dont mention a phone

O2: 20 Oct 24 to 19 Nov 24
24 Months - 60GB - Unlimited UK Minutes - Unlimited UK Texts £27.20

the app shows airtime = @£27.20

so hopefully they accept my cancellation without penalties.

Did you buy from O2 direct ( Guide: How does O2 Refresh work? ) or a reseller, @jason87 @Tally101

Resellers bundle the airtime and device plan together, hence the redemption figure you are seeing...

85075 txt was giving me zero value last month, but the app showed about £24 outstanding - have just this last week got down to zero (purchased from AffordableMobiles in Nov-22).
