New Password Warning

Anonymous
Not applicable

About 2 hours ago I received a text form O2 telling me that I had esarler received a another text, from someone else that containes a malicious link. Consequently O2 have reset my password and will send the new one to me.

Abou an hour later I did receive a text from o2 with a new passowrd. There were no links in this text.

I have just gone to the o2.com site and tried to logon on.

My logon failed and I then tried the new password. I subsequently reset it ti a password of my chosing.

Is this   a scam?

Far from an expert, but getting this sort of thing by text is most odd.  It is most likely to be a scam if you didn't ask for a reset.  Normally you would get this information by email not text.  The correct site is http://www.o2.co.uk/, not .com

If I was you, I would make sure you logged out of the .com one you used, close and reopen the browser or better, use a different browser, and type in www.o2.co.uk and see what happens when you try to login. Maybe change your password again.

You could also download and run malwarebytes antimalware from http://www.malwarebytes.org/ to check for any nasties that might have been downloaded.  I run it every few months just in case.

Sounds a bit dodgy but if you've reset now through the site and not followed a link to it you should be fine.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

If honest I would immediately have thought this was a scam. I have never heard of O2 intervening to reset a password without first being contacted by the user?
