Well I've been charging my daughters Europa, though on the box it's called a Galaxy 5.I have just turned it on,and lo and behold the texts are pouring in!In fact within 10 minutes of turning the phone on,it's received 15 text messages.Like SteveGad,I'm also getting concerned about the conflicting information on here.In fact last night I received an e-mail reply from O2 in regards to my initial query for this phone. They said they are aware of the issue, and are aiming to resolve it soon.
But why can't we get a straight yes or no answer from O2,do we change the phone for another model or what?
The other annoying factor,is I don't know if it's the phones fault,O2's or both.So I just don't know what to do next!

The other annoying factor,is I don't know if it's the phones fault,O2's or both.So I just don't know what to do next!

I went into the Carphone Warehouse shop in Mansfield this morning (12th Jan) and what I got there was disgusting. They simply shrugged and said "Nothing to do with us, ring O2!" I said "Is that all you can do for my £100?" Another shrug of the shoulders, so I stormed out.
I rang O2 and a lovely lady called Sandra told me that if I have another O2 phone (my wife has one - not same model though) I can put the SIM card into it for a couple of days and if the messages carry on pouring in, its the SIM card. If not, it's a fault of the phone. I think that's what I'm going to try next, as like my Mc303man bretheren, I'm sick of the 'message box full' message, only for it to fill right back up again. It makes the phone useless and has already cost me 2 jobs, due to getting certain texts up to 3days AFTER!! Now, I can't afford to lose money as I work for myself, so I'm not happy.
I'll try the SIM card swapping dance and let you know what happens. At least we're all in it together and if anyone solves it before us, let the forum know please. Cheers all.

in the second o2 shop i visited (where they were more helpful !)i was given a new sim card to try. this has been in place for five days and the texts keep on coming, so that process failed . i am trying to speak to somebody at samsung for info but i'm not too confident.i may have to bite the bullet and pick a new phone to exchange before saturday when my receipt runs out.i'll keep you updated on samsungs findings.

Just got off the phone to Samsung. They are aware of their software problem and 'GUARANTEE TO FIX IT BY THE END OF JANUARY'. So no resetting or new sim card will cure the fault at present. They will keep customers informed via their website when the fix is available.

Al, you've done a great service to us guys on here, so thanks very much for that. Seems the SIM card is not the issue then, so the swapping routine is useless.
We'll have to now wait and see if it does get fixed. I love this phone and wouldn't have wanted to change, so it seems we may now get satisfaction.
Thanks again for a great job in solving this issue. slight_smile

I can concur with all other posts in regards to the Kies update,it doesn't always work.In my case it didn't,as I got the message about the F/W;
This device's version cannot be updated.
When I checked my phone(second phone),it was already running the latest firmware.
In addition my second Galaxy was slightly different,on the first box it was called the Galaxy Europa. But on the second box it is called the Galaxy 5,and it is slightly different. For example it has the android logo on the back, and some extra options.
I'm going to put my daughters sim into her old phone to see what happens.Watch this space guys.
I have seen on the android forums that O2 "are aware of the compatiblity issue",and aim to have it resolved by the end of the month or possibly next week.
That sounds promising, but what if it doesn't work? I guess I'll have to try and get a different phone when I go back to CPW yet again.

hi what i've heard
If you have bought your phone within 28 days you can get it swapped instore. Its a Handset fault, not a network or sim card. If you've had it above 28 days you'll need to go on to samsungs website and download an updated version of the software.
There getting newer versions of the handsets in next week with the updated version of software attached, currently they've took it off sale
Cheers
(bought in o2 store, don't know what cpw are doing?)

i spoke to sean on o2 live chat advisor today and he says they are working with samsung for the fix but as of yet they dont know when the fix will be available. also o2 are still selling it without warning customers of the fault. i have emailed the sun newspaper asking them if they would run an article on this. i believe if we can get any kind of media attention it might help the fix become available quicker or even get refunds on the handsets.
last night my daughter and her 2 babies were locked out of her house and she txt me to take her spare key that i keep. i never got the txt and she got fed up of waiting and had to call the abusive ex to break into her home. i finally got her txt tonight but it wasnt till i put my sim in another handset. these europa's should come with a warning... MAY MAKE YOU IGNORANT OF ANY EMERGENCY SITUATIONS YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OFF X
