Missed calls from mobile numbers starting 07734 953 ***

Hello,

I'm getting a lot of missed calls from mobile numbers and when I ring back the cut off straight away, the weird thing is that the numbers are 07734 953 xxx, 07734 953 xxx, 07734 953 xxx which look very close together. Does anyone know if these numbers are used as part of a scam?

The only people I listen to about my line is o2 there the ones I pay and they are the ones who should deal with the problems it shouldn't be down to their customers I have had many refunds in the past for sending stop to premium numbers that have somehow got my number and will continue to do so until o2 can provide the service I pay for

Good luck in trying to do o2s job for them

Damien, it isn't up to O2 to ensure that your number isn't called by spam companies. People can be careless with numbers or spam companies can find or buy them from loads of places.

If you have numbers which are hassling you then, as stated, there is a service in place which all main netqorks have signed up for where a customer can report numbers like this. The networks can then take appropriate action to stopping these companies should they be operating on their network.

This is the system in place in most countries and it is effective, if not entirely. The more you report the numbers the better - but it isn't O2 directly who deal with it. That's not what networks do.

Well I do report every one I get and it still happens so its obvious someone not doing what they are supposed to isn't it and as far as I'm concerned I pay my money to o2 they deal with the problem as I said I have had many a refund for charges of these things coming through which I'm sure o2 wouldn't give if it wasn't their responsibility I hold a contract with o2 not ofcom or anyone else

Yeah, but you wouldn't complain to your car manufacturer that birds keep crapping on it.

O2 will help where they can when it comes to this as SPAM messages are frustrating,  but there is a process in place for UK networks and that's really as much as you can do. And the credits tend to be goodwill for premium messages but obviously without seeing your account I can't comment on them.

No I wouldn't complain to my car manufacturer if birds kept crapping on it but I would complain if it had warranty issues and they tried to pass the buck like o2 are doing

SPAM messages are not a warranty issue.

I really do get your annoyance as I get the PPI crap all the time - but it isn't just o2 customers who get them and it isnt just one specific number. The current system in place is the most effective way of handling it.

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it I disagree and think o2 should and can do more but its obvious we see this in different ways

That's been explained how that wouldn't be possible though:(

I'm not disagreeing with you it would be great but the list would rack up so fast it would require vast computational power to check all calls against the database.

It would also decrease the pool of available numbers(which are not unlimited) say you got a new contract only to find out the number has been placed on a blacklist and you cannot call/txt anyone.

Another issue would be staffing it. Each txt would have to be read to make sure its not just someone being vindictive and flagging a friends/ex partners/ buisness competitor as a spam number.

Imagine how much grief it would be to unblock your number should this happen to you:(

Any other ideas?
