Lost phone, dont want to miss out on my texts.

Hi all

I posted a thread yesterday re. barred iphone texts after I lost my phone.

Is there any way I can have 02 activate my number, so I can pick up any texts when I recieve my new phone, but still have my old simcard unuseable?

Im quite worried as I dont want to be missing any texts sent to me at the moment. If I sign up to blue book, would I be able to read any texts sent to me there?

And does anyone have any ideas what the standard text message validity period might be on new ish phones?

Cheers

As I explained in your first thread it depends what validity time the person has set on their phones. What the phone is set to by default varies even by different models from the same manufacturer. Generally this will be between 24hours and a week.

If I were you I would head straight to your nearest O2 store, get a new SIM and have them put your number on it. Then buy the cheapest phone to last you until you sort out a replacement.

If SMS is important to you, then it would be worthwhile sorting out a proper SMS service so if you lose use of your phone again. For everyday use, I would sign up to Bluebook. For business use I would take out a subscription with an SMS management company, they will provide you with the tools you need. (eg SMS will be forwarded to your email as well as to the phone.)

Thanks for that.

If i signed up to bluebook now, would I recieve my texts from the last few days if they are still within the senders validity period?

I have now got a new simcard from o2.

In addition to this, does anyone know how often a phone will try and re-send (within the delivery validity period) if a message fails to be delivered?

Or is this the network rather than the phone? And if so, same question above applies.

Cheers

Bluebook is not retro active. It will only store messages after you signed up.

When you send a text it is sent to a message centre which will try to deliver the message until it is no longer valid. Shortly after you turn a phone on, any messages that are still valid are delivered.
