Help with understanding my o2 bill

Hello,

So recently I changed from Pay as you go to Pay monthly on a tarriff of £23 p/month. As it is all new to me I don't really understand it. I called o2 twice and both times I was speaking with a non-native English speaker so i couldn't understand what was being said and vice versa.

I have checked my recent bill which is said to be at "-£34.90". However, it says next to it that this is a balance. Is this how much I have to pay or..? I'm confused as there is no way I have went beyond the contracts limits and no money has been taken out of my account. Do I need to pay it myself each month? I thought it was set up as a direct debit and there is no way my bill could jump so steeply.

If you have set up a direct debit then it will automatically take payment on the same date every month. They will always send you a bill each month 14 days before the direct debit is due. This is so you can check the amount that is due and have time to query it.

Now the good news....your balance is -£34.90 which means yopu are in credit. No payment is due because O2 owe you money. Next months bill will be taken from the £34.90 which will still leave you £11.90 in credit assuming you don't go over your minutes or text allowance.

I thought that ^^^^^^ and seems to cause confusion to many as the figure is preceded by a minus - instead of a plus +...

A minus figure on a balance sheet anywhere always means the same thing.

I think they just panic if they see a figure they're not expecting to see.

And also the relation to minus. In another life if I was viewing a staff balance sheet over a monthly period I would expect to see '+10 agency nurses' ....if I actually had 10 allocated to my unit...(not - 10)
