HTC Desire 20 Meg Update

I have had an update come through today but it will not install. The download works fine but my phone hangs after rebooting and I have to go into the recovery menu to reboot the phone. I'm on O2 and the Phone has not been rooted.
Can anyone offer any assistance?

Hi, I've had the same problem. I took the battery out, put back in and it's fine but back to how it was before with no update! I'm not trying it again unless I can be assured it will work.

I had the same problem. I'd particularly like to know what on earth was on this update??

Two good questions here -
1. What is on the update
2. Why is it that an update that is failing a lot (the views for this and the irish board issue that does better in serps) are huge - this is clearly an issue! is still available and not being fixed!
Disappointed, particularly with HTC - if it was a geographic or an 0800 number I would be more happy to call it...!

In answer to a previous reply:
Having had a failed install of this update I did try formatting the SD card and factory resetting the phone.
Still failed to install the update.
Anything from O2 about this issue yet?
*still waiting patiently*

Same problem for me. My phone is not rooted and I have only ever updated through O2 UK.
O2's silence on this matter is really tempting me into rooting my phone...
*UPDATE: O2 have advised me to try installing the update through HTC Sync on my pc. I will try this and report back.

I gave up and rooted my phone...figured it would be tricky, and it really wasn't. Now running a custom Gingerbread and it's much, much better.
So I don't care what this update is now slight_smile

UPDATE 2:
I downloaded the update and copied the zip file from my phone's SD card to my PC.
The update is clearly intended for GERMAN phones. The filename says "O2 DE" along with lots of numbers. Inside the zip there are files which reference the GERMAN validation number mentioned by CJPHTCDesire earlier ("O2___102"), which is what the update is trying to validate against on our phones and is what is causing the error.
So the problem is not with our phones, but the update itself.
Someone is at fault here - either HTC have sent out the wrong update, or O2 have failed to make the necessary changes to the update in order for it to be applied to UK phones.
I will email HTC when I get home, and send them a copy of the zip file.
Is there any way I can contact o2 by email, instead of using their "Chat with a Guru" feature?
Cheers

Why oh Why is O2 so silent on the subject, my 2 year contract is up in May 2012, so far not much to encourage me to continue with them.
Thanks to all of you who know so much more than me for pursuing this and attempting to get a solution. Patiently Waiting.
