Glastonbury - No Service Why do we suffer every year?

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi, I'm in the BA4 postcode and my phone as does the other 10 phoines in the office and around has full signal but you can;t use the phone. The reason? Glastonbury festival - every year O2 do "something" which screws the signal up locally - Please get it sorted.
Is anyone else got this issue?

O2 don't 'do' anything - you have nigh on 180,000 people visiting a small area over the festival period, an exceptionally high proporion of which will have mobiles on them. Disruption of service is guaranteed.
What O2 and all the other networks could to provide contingency for such large scale events - another question slight_smile

Most of the networks put in extra transmitters, indeed O2 make more effort than most. But they only have a limited amount of bandwidth to use, so there is a limit to the capacity. When you add in people's reluctance to have new masts erected then it's no wonder that people lose service when very large numbers get together.

look how much data o2 predicts to see on its network at glasto
And that’s before you consider how much data will be used. O2 predicts festival goers will use up an enormous 1088 GB of data during Glastonbury 2011. Messaging, tweeting, checking the web and uploading clips to YouTube all adds up. That’s the equivalent of 3.6 million web pages, and an increase of 60 percent in total traffic compared to last year.

They DO something because 2 days before the event the network gets screwed up. Yesterday they admitted there is issues - today is still the same - full signal with dropped calls - data not working.
Funny thing is Orange is fine..
