Fair Usage Policy Cap for Unlimited Texts

Anonymous

Totally appalled at what O2 have done regarding their unlimited text cap. 12,000 down to 2,990?? Unbelievable so really I am now paying £15 a month for nothing, not even worth it, and paying £7.50 instead of the old £5 for 'unlimited' or should I say 2,990 texts is ridiculous. this was a value for money network now I'm not so sure. it needs to be sorted or they'll lose customers. capping it because of abusers is wrong, sort them out not punish other people who actually enjoy/enjoyed the network. I am so angry.

We have had people on this forum complaining about spam text from such SIMS. I've had several myself.
Now we have smartphones instant messaging seems the way to go.

How can you get a bill on PAYG?

Contracts are not affected by this.

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/story/2012-02-24/att-data-sued-iphone/53236222/1

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – When AT&T started slowing down the data service for his iPhone, Matt Spaccarelli, an unemployed truck driver and student, took the country's largest telecommunications company to small claims court. And won.

A precedent has been made about the so called "Unlimited" phone packages. I'll point out that as it says, this was in America, but if you know anything about Legalese as I do, you'll know that America also uses our legal system and therfore Legalese. Terms and conditions or not, it is fraudulent to use the term Unlimited for any service offered by a company unless the service truely is unlimited. Even with small print stating otherwise, Unlimited means unlimited... Without limits...

un·lim·it·ed/ˌənˈlimitid/

Adjective:
  1. Not limited or restricted in terms of number, quantity, or extent.
  2. (of a company) Not limited.
 Synonyms:
boundless - unbounded - limitless - infinite

If you feel that the package you have was mis-sold under the fraudulent "Unlimited" banner, you may want to seek action at a small claims court.

I mention all this as I too am tired of companies trying to make their services seem better by sticking the "Unlimited" badge on them yet failing to supply unlimited service.

We've had this argument the ASA and Ofcom appear to think it's ok for UK companies to describe "unlimited" in almost any way they choose.
