Hi guys,

Ever heard of ‘Earth Hour’? If not, you have now

It’s an event organised by the WWF in order to highlight how we all need to band together to make sure our planet remains clean from pollution and wildlife decreases.

This year, 7000 cities in 157 different countries will be taking part and over 3000 landmarks in the UK including Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Wembley Stadium will be turning off their power in support of the event.

Telefonica is also doing its part though, and hopes you can too!

O2 stores across the land will be turning off their power over the weekend in support and Telefonica has made a number of pledges relating to Earth Hour's objectives:

  • To halve the emissions from our network by 2015, relative to data traffic.
  • Develop 100% renewable energy for all sites where we control the energy bill.
  • Have at least one carbon neutral site, achieved through renewable on site generation.
  •  Reduce absolute carbon emissions in Telefonica offices and stores by 25%.
  •  Be using 25% less water in our offices and switch sites.

If you want to take part, go ahead and turn off any electrical devices that you can on Saturday at around 8:30 PM for an hour.

Do you do a lot of different things to help the environment? If so, post them here! We can all learn from each other on being greener.

I've gone fully LED at home.
Bathroom and kitchen just been refurbished and switched to specific LED light fittings and all other bulbs have been replaced for LED equivalents.
I will switch other rooms over as and when I decorate them.
I'm lucky in that I still have an Economy 7 electric tariff so all phone / tablet charging is done at a specific charging station which is timed to turn on between midnight and 6.00am. This also means everything is charged fully whenever it is needed.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

We don't use energy saving bulbs as they don't fit our lights and I'm not changing them as I like them!  I can remember the original energy saving lightbulbs being slow to light up and flickering which also put me off.

While I try to do my bit (recycling, low emission car etc) I have to admit not being very energy conscious at home Smiley Embarassed

I'm slowly moving over to LED bulbs, energy savers just seem daft to me, buy the time they have finally warmed up you've done what you needed to do and left the room. With a fair few lamps and overhead lights it's quite a dear up front cost.

All of my home bar a 4 bar in the kitchen and a tube in the garage are low energy.

I love in a very modern and energy efficient new bill build just 3 years old with solar panels for water and electricity along with an air source heat pump. House is fully electric and my annual electricity bills are around £250 per year.

Had I had the space for more solar (I have six panels wish I had the 18) then my electricity bill would have been zero.
