The Telephone Preference Service is next to useless and the 7726 (SPAM) texting hasn't achieved much, either.
For my landline (with TalkTalk), I have a free feature which blocks all "number withheld" calls. I also have another free feature which enables me to dial a code in my phone and block the last number from ever calling me again.
Since adding these facilities, the number of cold calls has fallen dramatically.
Why can't O2 offer the same features? The technology exists so let's use it.
Come on O2! Help your customers!

In my experience, hospitals etc don't withhold their numbers.
Also, it would be up to individual customers to arrange the blocking service. I'm not talking about something for everybody.
Having worked in a hospital for years I can tell you they do withhold numbers. Purely because they go through a central large exchange based within the hospital...therefore it would be impossible to show every individual number of each dept that may call you...

And to add to what I said above...Numbers that show Withheld COULD be important. Numbers that show as Unavailable are usually scams or cold callers...

The code is, if you don't recognise it, don't answer it

Maybe I should have made my first post clearer.
I don't have a smart phone. I have a perfectly good old mobile with which I can make/receive calls and texts. That's all. Therefore, I can't have apps and, to be honest, I don't want them.
Also, I don't want the network to make any choices for me. I want to be able to act on my own personal choice to block spam calls.
If it can be done on a landline, by my own choice, why not with mobiles?
I shouldn't have to spend money buying a new phone so that I can download an app to stop spammers from bothering me.
