@viridis Please see my edit in the post above yours.

I don't know about you, but the first thing I see when I wake my phone is the lock screen, unless I use my fingerprint sensor which takes me directly to my home screen.

Clearly the instructions need a bit of looking at, even it's basic functionality is open to confusion.

No,my point was, you can wake your phone without unlocking it.
The way it's worded on the how to guide means that you wake it and can pay but for some items (over £xx) you must also unlock.
This would seemingly stop misplaced payments as as long as the screen is off, the pay is not active. Only becoming active when the screen is in wake state.

My interpretation is that it will work for sales below £30 as long as the phone is awake (locked or otherwise) but above that it needs to be unlocked. Obviously a PIN, passcode or fingerprint will be required to have been set on the phone as part of the app setup if not already done?

It's strange that the how to guide makes no mention of monetary limits.

Just read an article that says the limit is £100 and everything above £30 needs the phone unlocked rather than just awake.

I haven't tried it since but will make a point of it on the next shopping trip.

I've got a Note 4, NFC enabled, unlocked - I've tried several times on TFL and at Pret and it's not working.

Is there a specific battery I need?

Standard N4 battery is NFC enabled.... assuming you have genuine Samsung battery?
