I currrently use a Pay as you Go and see that its costing me 14 pence to send a Text message.  Can anyone advise me if there is a more cost effective tarrif.

As I am very hard of hearing I try not to use voice preffering to use text.

I used to be on Three, and for pure PAYG you're unlikely to find cheaper rates:

3p per minute
2p per text
1p per MB of data.

I'd check your coverage first though, as I did find them to be a little patchy, and quite often suffered from dropped calls. But for light users they take some beating.

Twit that I am I have just noticed a leaflet dropped in my post from BT that states the following:

500MB Plan

500MB Data

200 Minutes

Unlimited texts

12 Month contract

£5 a month

I am untutured in these matters but that looks good or am I wrong?

If you're already a happy BT customer, then I'd say go for it. It operates on the EE network (soon to be taken over by BT), so check coverage in your area first, before committing to a contract.
