Advice needed re: fraudulent credit

Anonymous
Not applicable

Good morning everyone

My query is to do with contracts.  I have two phones with O2 which I have had for a number of years.

I recently learned that someone who moved out from my address two months ago has taken out a contract with O2 last week using this address as their current address.

I have the account number and the phone number of this new contract to hand.  I have taken advice and been told that the new contract is fradulent as the person concerned knew this was no longer their address and also the person who set up the contract at the phone shop is related to them (and also knows that they no longer reside at this address)

Please can I get some advice on what I can do in respect of this issue?

A credit default can be placed on an address and can affect any future credit checks whether in the residents name or not. The OP needs to advise the credit reference agencies such as Experience that any default is registered against the previous occupier. All the agency addresses can be found online. I work in the banking industry and know from experience that applications for credit cards are often rejected because of the address.

Agree with this. When a family member lived with me for a short time he opened an account using my address. When he moved he defaulted. The letters kept coming to my address and I was informed that it was my address that would face scrutiny for future credit. Fortunately, I managed to get the family member to contact the debt agency himself and pay off the outstanding balance.  I also contacted Experia to ensure my address had been removed from the records.

Yes it does. Someone moving to am address black listed can have all manner of problems from CCJs for previous occupiers bit normally problems can be overcome simply by writing to the credit reference agencies.

Cheers jonsie - something to bear in mind for the future...
