5G woes

Excuse the long story.

So my last phone was a Galaxy S20 Ultra bought specifically because it was one of the first 5g capable phones. My next phone was a Galaxy S22 again 5G capable.

My home is literally within sight of a 5G tower and my City has pretty decent coverage.

The second my phone gets connected to 5G it stops dead!

I tried running a speedtest and the best speed I get is about 1 Mbps.

I often listen to podcasts as I walk home. When I am in a 4G area - all is fine. Halfway up the road I connect to 5G and it stops dead.

My other half on a different network gets amazing download speed on her 5G.

The Helpful staff in the O2 shop in Bridgwater listened to my tale of woe and swapped the Sim . . . no luck.

I got the Samsung shop to have a look at my phone and its fine.

I am a little frustrated because I bought the S20 specifically for the 5G. I used to get decent speeds on 4G (30+Mbps) so probably wouldn't have bothered.

Thoughts anyone?

Over subscribed 5g in your area needing more investment and bandwidth to cope.

Especially prevalent in Cities with lots of customers on the same network.

4G is fine for podcasts so loc

Damn thats pretty annoying. I'm not exactly sure why that's happening, the only short term fix I could propose is limiting your mobile data to 4G in these areas through your mobile data settings.

Hopefully you get sorted!

5G is None Stand Alone (NSA) it needs 4G infrastructure work. If 4G is not up to the mark then 5G will still struggle

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Are you on PAYG perchance ?

Have you tried a SIM from another network in your 'phone ? If so, what happened ?
