unlocking a Iphone 3G

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am trying to use my Wife's old Iphone 3G on a different network and am having trouble getting it unlocked.

When I insert the new network SIM I get 'No service'. I also inserted my PAYG O2 SIM and I get the same message!

I understand I need a working SIM in the Iphone for O2 to unlock it?

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the link, I had already looked at that method. The original number for the iPhone 3 has been transferred to a newer phone so is no longer associated with this handset. The unlock form requires a mobile number. As it is in use on a different handset, I don't think I can use it to have the unlock done.
There must be a way, I can't believe this hasn't been done before?

Get an O2 P&G sim, add £20 credit, make a few calls leaving at least £15 credit to pay for the unlock. Then send in the form or call customer service. There is no other way unless you use a third party to unlock.

Thanks for the advice, I had read that was a way to do it but was hoping to avoid buying a redundant payg sim. Looks like the easiest way forward though. Thanks again

Try it with the number you used on that phone.
If the number is still linked on the computer it will work.
