Solved: sms problem with iPhone 8

I can only send sms messages from my iPhone 8 to Android users if they have already sent a message to me. On my phone the message seems to have been sent (i.e. no red "Not delivered !" error) but the Android user doesn't get the message. Messages to and from other iPhones are fine. Any ideas please?
