That sounds completely correct, there was clearly almost no stock of golds from the get go, and not a huge number of silver either.
What I don't beleive is that they won't come back into stock until Christmas, that would rapidly turn into a PR disaster not just for O2 but for Apple. It's one thing to have queues and long delivery times, it's another to sit on people's money for a quarter of a year without despatching, and lots of people would start demanding refunds.
What I could beleive though is that they won't come back into 'immediate' stock until Christmas. i.e. they will be playing catch up until then, and any new orders placed in say November will face a delay of a few weeks just like we have now.
