Hi im in portugal at the moment and have upgraded to a sim only plan with an iphone x but even though i can make calls and receive txts i cant get internet please help

Change your data apn to "mobile.o2.co.uk"
Also turn off 4g so your phone is only trying to connect to 3g networks.
If the apn change works, it means you are on the wrong data tariff and it will need changing by customer services when you get back home.

no as the carrier is working with calls and txting just no internet connection

It is usually the apn that causes the problem.
One last thing to try is to manually search for a different network to connect to in case the one you have connected to automatically has an issue with data.

Thanks for the tip! Works perfectly now. (I had exactly the same problem here in Austria having just changed to a sim-only contract).
