iPhone locked to original SIM

Anonymous
Not applicable

I upgraded my iPhone 4 to an iPhone 4s and transferred my O2 SIM to the new phone.  My son wanted my old iPhone but it wouldn't work with his O2 SIM (even tho his SIM works in my new phone and his Dad's phone).   The old phone would only work with the original SIM card so it seems the phone had locked itself to that SIM.  I contacted O2 who arranged to have the phone unlocked but it still wouldn't work.  I then factory reset the phone to see if that would solve the problem and now even the original SIM won't work in it! Help!!

Definitely take it to Apple.

Have you connected to iTunes to activate the phone?

Whether I try to connect via wi-fi or i-tunes I don't get past the screen where it asks me to insert a SIM and then tells me that the SIM card is invalid .. the message says 'only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported Carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card' ... I have tried it with several SIM cards including my own active one and it still won't work

This sounds like it could be a hardware problem with the sim reader
