iPhone 4 frozen on black screen

Anonymous
Not applicable
Wonder if anyone can help... Was reading an app on my iPhone 4 when the screen froze, turned itself off, and I cannot get it to come back to life.

Have tried holding down the home button and sleep/wake button, nothing
Have tried plugging it into iTunes, doesn't find it as a device when plugged in
Was definitely charged, had over 50% battery
Has been warm but I didn't get the temperature warning so don't think it was too hot

Any other suggestions? Would be very very grateful. Thanks in advanced.

how long have you tried the home and wake button together about 10-30 seconds should revive it.

If not let it fully cool and then try again after a few hours plugged in on charge

What adam has suggested should be the answer, but if not, it could be a Hardware fault slight_frown

If this is not a hardware failure, this will fix your phone:

*****Warning***** This will erase everything on the phone *****Warning*****

My suggestion:
1) charge the iPhone if it can charge
2) then plug the usb cord into the phone and the computer
3) reset the phone
=> to reset the phone press the home button down and then hold down the wake/sleep button (the top button/power button)

This should force the phone into recover mode. Recovery mode will display a picture of the iTunes icon (blue background with a white note) with the iPhone usb cord. This will be on the screen of the iPhone.

Once that is done, iTunes should give a message stating "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode." When you get this message, restore the phone and set it up as new. This will fix any software problem, but the downside is that you will lose your information on the phone. The apps and music purchased from iTunes can be redownloaded. The content you uploaded to iCloud can be downloaded.

If this does not fix your phone, the screen hardware is probably broken. I'd take it down to an apple store to get the hardware checked.

Have tried holding them down for up to a minute and still nothing.

Will try leaving it on charge for a bit and try again. Thank you for replying.

You need to put phone in DFU mode and re-install the software through iTunes.
