iPad Pro fails to roam

Anonymous
Not applicable
I have pay monthly o2 Sim in both iPhone and iPad Pro. Both are enabled for continental roaming both on the device and with the appropriate add-on. But I have failed to get the iPad to roam in France on two occasions and as I cross the channel again, seems like a third time, even on the new no surcharge data roaming. I've done all the usual things and checked settings on device and on the account- but no luck. Any other suggestions? The iPad accesses data in the U.K. just fine. My phone is fine with data in both Uk and France.

Thanks for the confirmation @Martin-O2, I'm glad that the info we have is correct...if a little disappointed that I wont be using my Z4 tablet to download new Kindle/Audible books from my sunlounger in a few weeks, haha.

Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news @Anonymous, but at least you wont be banging your head against a wall wondering why it's not working whilst you're away. Perhaps using a phone as a portable hotspot could be the answer for you, if you need to use your iPad whilst outside of wifi range?

Why?
What is the justification for this please?

@Wa10 No worries. You will have to make sure you have enough reading material downloaded before you arrive!

@MI5 I've asked the team for clarification on why these tariffs are not included in the roaming zone. I'll let you know once I get a response.

It's not too bad, as the house/apartment we are staying in has wifi, and my phone will obviously work fine roaming too, so just a case of wanting to not only have my cake and eat it, but also a cherry on the top too! 😛

It would be nice to have that functionality in the future, but not a deal breaker for me right now, as I spend enogh of my time in front of a screen at home and work, so fully intend to have a few days away from connected life where I can just bask and drink, haha.

My iPad Pro on a MBB contract worked fine in France, Holland, Belgium, Norway and Czech Republic since I got it but, I got an email from o2 a couple of months ago saying that they had identified an error saying that some MBB contracts had been incorrectly activated for roaming. I phoned o2 and the CS rep said that while roaming was being disabled once the new European rules came in it would definitely work. Currently I'm sat in Poland having to use my iPhone's hotspot. Not impressed.

They still don't work abroad. This has been confirmed on here by @Martin-O2

This is really poor from o2 and there can be no justification why the new rules on roaming don't include MBB.  It doesn't affect me at all but I'm angry for all the people who were led to believe they could now use the data when roaming. Mind you, taking throttling into account it would probably be next to useless anyway.

Just had exactly the same issue with a new iPad Pro ( upgrade) the original iPad worked for roaming the new one doesn’t, spoke to CS and it was confirmed by them, no roaming on data plans,

here red comes the good bit.

got home from Europe and had a letter from O2...Great to see you again, sticker with the mobile number

and a list “what you’ve signed up for”

which included the line. “ Data. 10GB of Europe Zone data”

straight back on to CS, who asked me to send pic of letter, so now I’m waiting for there response.

lets see them wriggle out of this one.

will update when I have a response

That's totally ridiculous. It's time advisers were fully trained up in order to give roaming advice and just what tariffs include. Maybe they need a specialist team?
Do let us know what happens Mark.

Another reason why my accounts will be moving elsewhere.....
When away in France can't use my 8gb of phone data due to it being throttled at a poultry 0.5mbps and the Tab4 sitting next to it can't use it's 1gb of data due to some totally bizarre rule that someone thinks is a good idea to not allow data sims to roam !!
