I am thinking of buying an i pad and dont know anything about them, other than I tried my mates the other day and thought it was great.
I would use the i pad at home where I have broadband, but we do go away in the caravan a lot so obviously some of the places we go I can not connect to broadband as we are usualy in the middle of a field.
So can I buy a sim card for just a month while we are away? If I can is there a certain i pad I need to buy.
Sorry I am so thick but the wrong side of 50 and find it all quite daunting

Take a look over here for O2's iPad SIMs.

I would make sure you are buying a 3G version as the WiFi only will require you look at conneting differently while out and about.
Make sure to check the coverage where you will be using it, typically whenever I go camping I find signal is hard to come by.

Depending on what phone you have you could also consider "tethering" which allows another WiFi device, such as an iPad, to share your phones internet connection.
If you have more than one device needing a connection you could also look at O2's Pocket Hotspot, which is like your home WiFi box but portable (it takes a SIM card and looks like an old mobile) and allows up to 5 devices to connect at the same time.

Hope this helps.

Can I just go to a 02 shop and buy a sim card, do I have to take a i pad with me or will it fit any?

Great advice from the guys there.
And your not "thick" !
A stupid question is a question not asked in the first place.
One thing to note is the difference in price from a WiFi Only iPad to a WiFi & Cellular enabled version.

You can buy one from where you like.
Shop around.
Argos sometimes do good deals.
Or somewhere like CEX.
