We want to UNLOCK IPHONE 5!!!!

I am not coming here to ask any question about how or when to unlock Iphone5, it is already 6 month since Iphone 5 was released. And it is the only smart phone cannot unlock at this time. It is not happy as a customer of O2, we want to unlock it, and I believe if there is enough customer complain it to O2, they will do something, maybe. I have done that. Come on guys, If you are a Iphone5 user, please complain it, maybe call them or email them. I feel so upset, Iphone5 still cannot be unlocked!!

So true.

The revenue is guaranteed anyway so there is no need lock a device. I beleive the decision was to stop people rushing in to get one on contract, unlocking it and then going round the corner to sell it, in which case O2 still has the 24 month contract - unless these people then defaulted then leaving true customers wihtout the latest and greatest iPhone.

Personally I think a phone and a contract should be two separate things completely, subsidies should be scrapped and we would have a much healthier network choice as well as educating people on the true value of a phone....

How many people do you know who would be able or want to pay out £500+ for a handset ?

The networks would suffer if your idea came to fruition.

They are a victim of their own business strategy by offering high end phones for next to no outlay or free, coupled with freebie gifts such as Tv's and Games consoles etc.

We all know they lock the device to ensure you only use their network wether your in your native country or roaming abroad, so they not only earn revenue from the monthly payments but also that of say roaming costs etc.

Have to say I agree with version7point0. The trend toward scrapping subsidies is happening and several European countries have already done away with them. Denmark and Spain spring to mind (although I will admit I could be wrong).

It will happen in the UK, and I reckon it will be sooner than we think. Several network bosses have said it's likely, but it will only happen if they all agree, and currently Three won't.

Anyway, the level of subsidy in the UK is ridiculous and it's about time we had a reality check.

Yes I always pay more for a sim free phone so I can stay on a cheaper tariff that is no longer available.

I think the trial with CPW supplying the 5s is a step towards subsidy scrapping.

Imagine, you want a phone, you go to CPW/P4U/Manufacturer and buy your phone. The networks offer you sim only deals.
