Variation in data usage

Anonymous
Not applicable
Forgive me if this has been asked & answered elsewhere, but if so, I couldn't find it.

Every month I hit my data allowance... so every month I reset my mobile data usage (in the mobile data setting) so I can keep an eye on it.

Without fail, I get a message from O2 saying that I have used my inclusive allowance (1GB), but my phone setting say that I should still have some left... it might not be much, but ~80mb every month adds up.

Does anyone know why the mobile usage on my phone would be less reliable than the network provider?

Generally it is because the phone doesn't record any uploaded data accurately which is why you may see a difference in the readings.
The o2 data allowance is up and downloaded data.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
