look at your tariff do you have o2 travel?

if so 50p per call in and out for 60 minutes on pay monthly see here http://www.o2.co.uk/international/o2-travel

No I don't have O2 travel so I presume I will just pay the Europe rates as stated on that link. As I don't intend to use any data do I need to switch of "roaming"?

Switch off data when roaming, yes. You should, I think, get O2 travel automatically. Give CS a call before you leave to check. You should also receive a text when you register on the foreign network informing you of the costs.
