I asked this question to o2 and the they advised it can be done 1 month after you have had the contract as the iPhone 7 unlock codes are not available until then my last phone was locked to o2 and i had it unlocked a few months after without having to pay off the phone plan.

Welcome to O2, someone will be with you soon.
You are through to O2
Hi I have requested my iPhone 7 to be unlocked and this has been refused. I have already settled my device plan for this phone.
Hello, it's O2 here. I hope you're well. What can I do for you?
Let me check this for you.
Just to inform you in advance.
We are not unlocking iPhone 7 as of now at all.
Because we are selling these iPhone to be used exclusively used on O2 network only.
I have been receiving conflicting information – the response I received from your twitter account is that as long as the device plan has been settled, it will be unlocked.
That's in the case of iPhone SE for now.
So there's no way this can be unlocked even if the device plan has been settled?
As per the latest update we are not unlocking iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus yet until we have the free flow stock available.
when will this be?
Yes, for now it can't be unlocked but yes once we start unlocking these iPhones you will get the information from our website.
I won't be able to comment on the exact time scale as I don't want to make any false commitment.
But yes once it's available you will get the information from our website.
And then you can get the iPhone unlocked accordingly.
