Unlocking iPhone 5s using a Giffgaff sim

I've recently puchased a GiffGaff phone and sim, and will be using that from now on.

I therefore would like to unlock my Iphone 5s that I've had for years through O2 so I can sell it.

I've requested to unlock through O2, and have had the email telling me to connect to itunes with a non-O2 sim.

I have tried to do this using my GiffGaff sim, but didn't get a noticifation to tell me the phone was unlocked, so I'm assuming I need to use a sim from a carrier that doesn't use O2 as its network carrier.

My fiance also has a giffgaff sim so I can't borrow his.

Any solutions anyone can think of please?

Many thanks.

No need to pay anything. Just put the sim in the phone to complete the unlock process.

@michelle31731 you need an EE, Voda or Three sim card https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/How-to-Guides/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-SIM-card/ba-p/1...

Free PAYG sim cards are available from their websites.

Thank you! I've ordered an EE sim. Will I have to pay them money to set it up?
