Unlocking an iPhone bought from Carphone Warehouse?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all,

I upgraded at Carphone Warehouse last week to an iPhone 6 Plus with a 5GB 4G contract.

Can O2 customer services unlock this iPhone for me? I'm unsure as it came from Carphone Warehouse and not directly from O2.

Thanks

I think if the OP pushed hard enough and made enough noises in the right places he would probably get it unlocked eventually....

Just to update, I still haven't heard back from complaints review service. I have emailed the CEO's office and received a holding reply.

They'll probably have lifted the restriction to everyone by the time you get a response.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

To be honest, despite the poor service that the OP seems to be receiving, Carphone Warehouse should really be selling iPhones that are truly unlocked, and not network locked when the first sim is inserted:

I'm sure it's of little consolation at this late stage, but for future purchases I'd always recommend buying directly from the Apple Store.

But I thought even if bought from Apple, they lock to the first network sim inserted?

Not if you buy it. I've changed networks several times without any problems at all. Obviously, if you take one on a pay monthly contract, it will lock to the first network sim that's inserted (I guess because you don't actually own the phone at that point).

Thanks anyway

No worries wink

But going back to my original point, I can't understand why people buy from CPW anyway. It's not as if they're cheaper (well not for iPhones anyway).

When the iPhone 6 was released back in September we had a massive thread running on the forum.

I think people were so desperate to get hold of one on release date...they would have bought them anywhere!

Absolutely beggared belief. It was my first experience on here of an iPhone launch. I may go into hibernation for the next one LOL
