Unlocked iPhone - Orange sim not working, '3' does

Hi,

I have an iPhone 4 that was originally on an o2 contract. That finished months ago and the phone has been used without network as a developer phone for about a year.

I wanted to start using it, so inserted my existing Orange contract sim into it. I just got a 'Searching' for ages, and then eventually 'No Sim' message. I also cannot see any carrier settings,and in the 'About' section it shows carrier as O2 still.

I thought it was locked, so I got a new PAYG sim, and requested an unlock. O2 told me they couldn't unlock because the imei number was already unlatched.

I tried my friends '3' sim in the phone and this works fine, putting my Orange one back in still doesn't.

I have connected to itunes many times, there is no unlock confirmation, I assume because it really IS already unlocked, as the '3' seem supports.

Any ideas on what the problem might be? My Orange micro-sim works in my Nokia phone.

Hi,

If you have been using it as a developer iphone then perhaps if you restore it back to stock and then try again.

Their are sites where you can input your serial number to find out the true status of the phone.

It is weird that some sim cards work in it and some don't although they work in other handsets.

by saying I use it as a developer phone I don't mean actually developer unlocked. I just used it whilst developing my apps to test, so didn't use it as a phone, eventually resulting in the old O2 sim being disconnected.

And I did check my imei number on imei.org and that states it is Unlocked.

I'm not an iPhone person, but if the phone works with an O2 PAYG sim and a 3 sim, and doesn't work with the Orange sim, then it stands to reason that the problem is with Orange, and not with O2, even though the Orange sim works in a different phone. Doesn't seem to be any other explanation.

I assumed you had an Apple Developers Licence and had been using if for iOS Beta testing.
