There a number of ways.
go to the My o2 on the web, sign in and there will be a button to have you phone unlatched from the network.
you can use the myo2 app. In the menus there is a unlock button.
Or you can fill in the form
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form
As as long as your bills are up to date etc, contract is free to unlock,
if if it's PAYG then you will be charged £15.
also the phone has had to be used on the o2 network and for it to be unlocked using the SIM card you are requesting it to be unlocked.
Use iPhone XS Max dual sim, SE, Honor 10, IPad Pro 11, Apple Watch 4 LTE, 100+ Mpbs Barrier and a Record Player.
