Strange App Icon Badge

Hi Guys.

A friend has the following issue with a strange badge that he cannot remove.

A while ago he was trying to kill the settings and the YouTube app, and when he touched the minus button to kill them, a strange badge icon showed over both of them. It's been that way ever since. He has tried re-installing the YouTube app, but it's still there. Even restored his phone at one point to upgrade to iOS 6.1.2, and they were still there from the start, even before he re-jailbroke the phone.

He has tried ;

Re-sprung.
Deleted and re-installed the YouTube app.
Tried IconTool, Badge Clearer & Badge Clear.
Un-Checking his Winterboard theme and re springing.

Has anyone else seen this before and know how to clear it ?

Device being used : iPhone 5.

It's not a standard iOS badge so it must have something to do with the jailbreak.

If your friend removes his winter board theme and then opens up a file manager get him to search for any files relating to winter board still on the phone.

I'm just wondering if apple have introduced a way of seeing if a phone has been previously jailbroken by allowing remnants to remain in the registry. (We know they'd love an excuse to not repair a busted phone)

Somthing surviving is the only explanation I can fathom.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong. So Ive been told wink

Yeah I've suggested he in checks his current theme or even delete it as a temporary measure to see if the badges go. He says the badges remain.

I really don't like guiding people in the use of ifile. It can cause more issues than it can resolve if not used with good working knowledge ,and as I'm not physically with the iPhone and see all the files trying to explain it people can panic and think they are pressing the right buttons !

I've told him that if the badges are not affecting the iPhone or the app then to see past the badges fit now and wait until the next jb tool is available.

He could even turn the badges darker so it does not stand out in red !!

Thanks again.

If the strange icon is a result of a jailbreak. Then updating the software to the latest version completely removes the jailbreak. Do the update through iTunes on the computer though as the update file when done on the iPhone is much smaller than the much larger update file that is used when its done through iTunes on a computer. slight_smile

For example, the first iOS 6 jailbreak (and some of the .1 updates), it was possible from what I've read, that the jailbreak was still present when going from certain .1 updates to another. I'm almost certain that iOS 6.1.3 removes the jailbreak. So updating the software to iOS 6.1.3 (which is the very latest software) should completely remove the strange icon.

If my earlier suggestions don't work, then updating to iOS 6.1.3 (through iTunes) and restoring the iPhone as new should definitely remove the strange icon (I would be very surprised if it didn't) slight_smile

I've jailbroke my iPhone on numerous occasions, but I was using the Sky Go app, after the jailbreak, the app would no longer run and gave the message that streaming is not possible on a jailbroken device, I have friends who have the app too on their iPhone's and Galaxy S2's and they were getting the same message too (my friends S2 had been rooted, which is basically the equivalent to a jailbreak on an iPhone, as far as I know). I know its not the case for everyone, but I find that with going from one major iOS version to another, the need to jailbreak becomes less and less.

The only thing that I want to see on the next iOS update, is a quick access to switch on/off wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode, from within the swipe down notification centre. From what I've read, iOS is going to be in for a big change (appearance wise, but I could imagine feature wise too) as Jonathan Ives is in charge of it now. Jonathan Ives is the guy who designed the iPhone 4 (and some of the others too) he also designed the latest iMac too.

Yes updating to iOS 6.1.3 removes jail break with no option to revert to 6.1.2 on a a5 or a6 chip driven idevice.

At the moment the dev of xcon tweak is trying to overcome the skygo issue.
