Sharing iPhone data with iPad

I have an iPhone with a data sharing tariff and an iPad with PAYG data that is due to expire in a few days. When this happens I plan to get a 30 day Pay Monthly sim for the iPad and set up data sharing at the end of the 30 days. Is it possible for me to do this or is there a specific tariff I need to purchase for the iPad before I can share my iPhone data with it?

You need to buy a specific sim (tariff) that allows data sharing.
You can buy one in store or by calling 202.

Does that mean both devices have to be on a data sharing tariff and not just my lead device, which will be my iPhone?

Yes, that is correct.
You need a lead device, then you can add other devices to share from the lead, but they need to be on a sharing tariff too.

Isn't there a charge for sharing too?

Yes, there sure is, although it seems to vary depending on the day of the week!
