At what point did you cancel the update?  The download or install stage?

Good question raised here - If during install you will have to connect to iTunes to repair the OS.

If you interrupted the update it just pauses u till you hook back up to iTunes or connect to wifi for the OTA avenue of updating.

If you have a local Apple Store then either pop in and see a specialist or book an Apple Store Genius Bar appointment as suggested / or see a guru at your most local O2 high street shop.

Also try Settings , General , Reset , Reset Network Settings.

A half installed update like this can do really freaky things.

Assuming it's not in the mode where it graphically tells you to connect it to iTunes, I'd to a full factory reset on it and either restore from a backup via iTunes or set it up as a new phone and simply sync it via iTunes to get most of your stuff back.

If connecting to iTunes doesn't fix it I suggest you contact Apple directly.
