Scrambled weird noise when I call out or someone calls me

Can someone help me understand why I get a weird alien noise and cannot call out? When people call me they hear the same noise too.
Is it network problems or my phone.
Really need help in fixing this as I need my phone for work 😞

Hey. No it's not that. When I press dial to connect it's a screechy, scrambled, alien noise. That's
The only way I can describe it. If someone calls me and I pick up they get the noise.
eek. That's the only way I can describe it. Very frustrating 😞

I have turned my phone off and then back on. I've completed all the updates on the phone etc, tried removing some of the data to clear up memory to see if that helps.
Nothing works. I haven't done anything for it to trigger, it just happened. So odd!
It sounds like screeching down the phone, almost like an old school internet connection noise, but quicker and like someone is talking underwater.
I'm guessing it is a problem with o2, but my boyfriend has the same phone etc and he doesn't have the problem. Hmm... Any thoughts?

On 2g or 3g or both?
I.E. have you tried turning 3g off to see if it still happens?
If it still happens and the iphone is in warranty a trip to your local apple store and make a genius appointment explain the issue I am sure they will replace on the spot as long as it is not water damaged.

Hi There
I turned off 3g and it worked. How weird.
What should I do now? Obviously I want 3g on
Is it a phone issue?

Mine used to do this from time to time. After a clean with a can of compressed air it was fine.
