I had an iPhone 4s but I upgraded to a new phone recently and I had the same number as I did on my old phone
How would I unlock it as I don't know if it will unlock the new phone I have now

But what if it asks me for my mobile number

No problem at all, it's the IMEI that gets unlocked.
