Hi there,

I just upgraded my contract and ordered a new iphone 7 which will arrive in the post tomorrow. I am planning to give the phone to a family member as a present, but she is on a different network. Will it be unlocked? I’d prefer not to open the box.

Will keep my old iphone myself.

Thank you slight_smile

Put in the sim you are using now in your current phone and use it for a day.
Check in your MyO2 that it shows the new phone, then press the button to request the unlock.
You can then put your sim back in your current phone.

Not it will be locked to O2.
You need to use it on your sim and then request a free unlock https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/How-to-Guides/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-SIM-card/ba-p/1...

Just to clarify. So when I receive it, I will put my sim in (the new one or the old one which is in my phone now?), then request for it to be unlocked. Can I put the sim back into my old phone so I can use it? Or do I keep using the new one until it’s unlocked?

Thanks again!
