New iPhone5, no 3G, checked phone, swapped SIM

Hi. Last week I changed over from a Nokia to an iPhone5, both on O2.

Th 3G has never worked although my tariff confirms my data bolt on is activated. I checked at an Apple shop who tried a different O2 nano-sim and the 3G worked, so I know it's not the phone or the settings.

I asked at O2 for a replacement SIM which of course took nearly 24 hours to actually work but there is still no 3G.

The APN settings say idata and worked with Apple's SIM.

What can I do with O2 to force something to be done about this?

Went to O2 in the Strand today. Great guru called Patric immediately spotted there was a problem with the account. Apparently, there was a bar on my 3G which needed some secondary system to be amended. He called HQ who said an update was actioned on Tuesday by the Bromley branch but still not done as it can take five days(!) to get sorted so just wait and it will all be OK maybe by Monday(!).

Anyway, for anyone else who has a similar problem after changing phone manufacturer, O2 have some very old crappy back-end systems. The quickest and most reliable method is to get your account de-activated and a new one created. Of course, I now have to wait until Tuesday to see if the account change will solve the problem.

Clearly something not set up on your account correctly. You can only keep on to CS to get it sorted....

I would walk into my local 02 store and see a guru.

Explain to them the issue and ask for another nano sim and ask the to phone customer services while your there and perform a sim swap with them in store.

I performed a sim swap in my local apple store yesterday and am currently still waiting for my iPhone 5 to become live too.

I have heard 02's recent outage has had a snowball effect and is causing delays etc.

Do you have an iphone data bolt on or the same data bolt on you had with the Nokia?

If it's the same bolt on change the APN settings to mobile.o2.co.uk as idata is specific to the iphone bolt on.

It was a Nokia bolt on. If I change to mobile.co.uk do I also need to change all the other settings like logins and passwords?

No just the APNs.

Leave everything else the same, just change the APNs to mobile.o2.co.uk

Make sure you use the letter 'o' in o2, not zero:smileywink:

😞

In that case, changing the APN has no effect. It still doesn't work.

Have O2 messed up my account, do you think?

Did you reboot after changing APN's ?

Yes, still no 3g. Sorry, but I'm very unimpressed with O2 at the moment. The time it takes to activate SIMs, the time to swap them over, the suggestion to try asking Apple for help.

My wife (it's her phone) is telling me to take it back and cancel the contract!

I'm having the same issue, it took 48 hours to activate my SIM, which then went off again for 4 hours, now I have no data at all, done everything possible I could find on here to try and fix it and still no further forward.

The whole switch to the iPhone5 has been one disaster after another, not impressed.
