New iPhone 6, New work sim card...old and new number mix?

Anonymous

Hi,

I have been given a new work phone and business sim card. the new work phone is an i-phone 6, my old personal phone is an i-phone 5C.

When i put the new sim card in the new phone, on set-up, it listed all the phone numbers (both personal from iphone 5c and new business) and all my previous email addresses that could send and receive from the phone...which i thought was weird but went with it

the new phone has all my old phone apps etc as i added my apple id etc. like whats app

The new phone calls out from my new number, but my whatsapp is using my old number.

Even though i have both phones still working (personal phone on personal tariff and work phone on work tarrif) I am confused as to why i can no longer receive calls on my old phone number (on old or new phone) and i have no idea how to connect the new phone to a new whatsapp number etc using the new number.

basically, i dont understand why i have a mix of numbers being used from the new sim card/phone?

why cant i used my old phone as normal and my new phone as new? why is the new phone a mix of 2 phones and my old phone now bereft of receiving calls?

confused, please help slight_smile

Thanks

Tez

Go to settings >Phone >My Number and edit it to the correct phone number for the sim card you are using.

hi there, the correct number is already 'My Number' on the new phone. the problem is that i seem to have my whatsapps on the new phone using my old number...which is fine if i could also receive calls to the new phone if people called my old number...essentially, i can receive calls to new number on new phone, but whatsapps on NEW phone are sent and received with the OLD number and to make things worse, my old phone wont receive calls to old number (if that makes sense!?) i.e. i seems to have lost my old number for calls completely.

Try setting up as a new phone & not a back up then add your apps like new that might work as the backup retains all the data & memory saved

Whatsapp can only be used on one number so you will have to re-register whatsapp to the new number. You can't just switch sims between phones and have whatsapp work automatically I'm afraid.

Correct, you will have to re register with your current number and everything on the old number will be lost unless you have another device.

thanks all. Very helpful.

I am fairly happy to have the whatsapp continue to be registered to the old phone number (good to know you ca only have one number - thanks)...is there any reason why calls can no longer be received to the old number on the old phone?

essentially i have 2 seperate phones, with 2 seperate numbers. the new phone has the new phone number and the old whatsapp, the old phone has the old number and no whatsapp (now) but the old phone goes straight to voicemail when called (calling the old number obs).

thats a bit strange, no?

Yes, that is strange. I assume the old sim card is still active and that the phone is registering on the network OK?
Try dialing ##002# <send> to cancel all diverts.
