Yes, you can use your sim in any phone you like.

Hi @Horatio

To do that you would have to buy the phone outright I'm afraid. Apple do an instalment plan to eligible customers https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/browse/financing

You can then keep your current sim only plan and put your sim into the new phone.

Also as a follow up question. Will the old phone be disconnected from O2 when i put the sim in my new phone or do i need to call O2 about that?

No need to contact O2. They don't care what sim is in your phone as long as you are still paying the bill. 😉

The US version of the iPhone 14 has an eSIM only, not a physical SIM. I assume the same holds for the UK version, but have not seen a confirmation of this. If that holds, I guess you would have to contact O2 to get the eSIM set up.

Your old phone is not "disconnected" it just won't work unless you put a different sim in it.

You will however, need to sign out of your Apple ID and iCloud to allow the new phone to fully function correctly.

You may be right. I don't think it is clear yet.
