My sim keeps saying that there no service

my friend gave me his old iPhone 7 because he got a upgrade but when I tried putting my giffgaff pay as you go sim in the phone which is locked to o2 it keeps coming up as there no service how can I make it so that my giffgaff sim works in the o2 locked phone

@Bennyboy your giffgaff sim should work in an O2 locked phone, but try the process here to unlock it first https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/How-to-Guides/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-SIM-card/ba-p/1...

I still haven’t got anywhere I looked in the setting and it said that the “phone not alllowed” I don’t know what to do
