When i receive text messages i dont get any kind of notification, i.e. message banner or alert tone?  Can you advise.

Have you tried going to settings > notifications and then checking that where it says messages you have notifications on with a sound selected?

Hi

Settings - notifications- message and choose one of the styles of notifications.

I choose Banners.

Settings - Sounds - text tone.

Choose one that suits your ears.

If they are not working then try holding the sleep/wake button and home button together until the Apple logo appears and let go. It will reset.

And or Settings - General - Reset - Reset all settings.
