I am visiting the states in February Las vegas and New York will my iphone 7 work there? if not how what do i do to be contactable grateful for any advice

Yes it will work but you will be charged.
It is £4.99 a day for O2 travel or you can choose to pay standard rates.

We usually advise phone in airplane mode (or remove sim) and use whatsapp, facetime, iMessage etc over wifi only to avoid any charges at all.
If your phone is unlocked, you could also get a local T-Mobile sim whilst you are in the states.
If phone locked, you can get it unlocked by following help here https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Other-Products-and-Services/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-S...

@Anonymous Just to add to the good advice given to you by @MI5, if you use your O2 sim you will not get 4G in the US. If your phone is unlocked, aside from a Pay & Go from T-Mobile, you could also use one from AT&T. Both will have excellent coverage in the NY and Las Vegas areas.

Just to add, just check you are on the correct idata bolt on and that your APN is set to idata.o2.co.uk
