Yes it will work but you will be charged.
It is £4.99 a day for O2 travel or you can choose to pay standard rates.
Details on this link http://international.o2.co.uk/internationaltariffs/travelling_abroad
We usually advise phone in airplane mode (or remove sim) and use whatsapp, facetime, iMessage etc over wifi only to avoid any charges at all.
If your phone is unlocked, you could also get a local T-Mobile sim whilst you are in the states.
If phone locked, you can get it unlocked by following help here https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Other-Products-and-Services/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-S...

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

@Anonymous Just to add to the good advice given to you by @MI5, if you use your O2 sim you will not get 4G in the US. If your phone is unlocked, aside from a Pay & Go from T-Mobile, you could also use one from AT&T. Both will have excellent coverage in the NY and Las Vegas areas.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2
