Anything that might weaken security won't be popular here, I can almost hear someone phoning in without their log in details and saying "I have the order number though." to get into an account.

They're likely to be removed anyway as personal details are not allowed here.

Fail to see why someone else's order number would be of any help to you, I know I wouldn't tell you mine

Orders going out don't follow any type of numerical order so pointless knowing anyone else's number.

Bit of a strange question this!

Why would anyone in their right mind hand out their personal order number???

hmmm bit dodgy if you ask me

I'm sure the op was trying to track order numbers against delivery ?
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Nothing dodgy, the order number is useless to anyone else.

It would just help them give O2 an order number and say Person X with order XXXX received their handset and they ordered X days after me.

I guess!

There seems to be no chronological or numerical order for despatching phones.
