I now have an iphone 5c and my old iphone 4 is just sat collecting dust so want to either sell it or give it somebody else as i paid off the contract after 2 years.
My teenage stepson asked if he could have it for xmas, if i did choose for him t have it how do i go about passing it over? He has a normal sim as he is on pay as you go, so would he just need a micro sim and then he's set up for the iphone or does anyone know if he would need a data plan? Thanks for your help!

First wipe it via settings , general , reset , erase all Contents and settings.
They will need an Apple ID.
They can get the right sized sim card from any O2 store and they'll swap their number and tariff to the correct sized SIM card.
SwapMySim Procedure.
If a person upgrades to another phone and the new phone takes another sized Sim Card then this procedure moves the Tariff and Mobile number from the original SIM card to the new one. If on PayAsYouGo any credit will move across too.
This is the same is a new SIM card is required if a person feels their original one may be at fault.
Any O2 HighStreet Store can perform the swap in store (if on Contract please take some Photo I.D just incase), or a person can take the SIM card home or request one via O2 Customer Services. 202 for Contract. 4445 for PAYG. 8002 for Business -> http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus
Sim Swap link -> http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk
Be sure to ask for an Account Specific Blank SIM card as Contract and Pay As You Go versions hold different information.
The Service will stop on the original SIM card which indicates the swap has started. Turning the phone Off and On , or if applicable switching airplane mode On and Off ,with the new SIM card in every 20 minutes or so will typically help the connection to settle.
They will need a data plan yes in their tariff. They however as payg don't need to have their account changed to go on iData settings.
A big bundle tariff is available which can be chosen via myo2 or ringing 4444

They could ~ however that could turn out to be rather expensive.
If a lot of data is used then a sim only tariff which offer higher data allowances perhaps would be a more financially better off decision, If the teenage stepson is 18 years or is taken out by the OP themselves.
