Do I need a separate contract if I buy an iPad? I already have a sim-only iPhone

I have paid for my iPhone and switched to a sim-only contract. I would like an iPad, mainly for reading newspapers, social media and Face Time calls. If I buy an iPad outright, do I need to take out another contract? Or can I link this to my iPad?

@Bootess

If you buy one outright there's no need for a contract with it at all.

All iPads are able to connect via wifi either from your home router, public hotspot or by turning on the horspot on your phone.
