Do I have to swap sim with an iPhone to iPhone upgrade

I have an iPhone XR I’ve upgraded to an iPhone 12 and I want to know if I have to use the sim sent or can just move my current sim

You can use your present sim

but

if you are in a 5G area then follow this guide to use the new sim
