@SimonPennington Had a look on the dictionary app on my iPad it means this.
the process or business of handling and executing customer orders, as packing, shipping, or processing checks.

or o2's dictionary
The process of fobbing off a customer to get them off the phone

Yes they need to free up the lines to take more orders, not that they can fulfill the ones they already have but at least they can get more money then.
Honestly what are we like, expecting to take valuable time away from O2 making money to ask about when our phones will be delivered, not like they already have our advance payment or anything.

had enough, jumped ship, below from CS, laughable:
I really apologize for the same. However, the device is out of stock at the moment and we're trying our hard to be in regular touch of the manufacturer to complete our shortage as soon as possible, so that we can fulfil the demand of the new iPhone.
BUT anyone else has it in stock!!!!
so i ordered a shiny new iPhone 7 plus 256GB matt black from Carphonewarehouse and it is being delivered to me tomorrow.
Next year I will give it to the wife and get the new one anyway

Carphone Warehouse are quoting the following right now:
JB 128 - 11/11 delivery
JB 256 - 4/11 delivery
B 128 - 21/10 delivery
B 256 - next day delivery
G 128 - 14/10 delivery
G 256 - next day delivery
S 128 - 21/10 delivery
S 256 - next day delivery
RG 128 - 21/10 delivery
RG 256 - next day delivery
If Carphone can get these why can't O2?
BTW - after much thought I am still staying with O2 and my original order now and what will be will be. O2 and Apple should be ashamed of themselves for this debacle and hopefully lessons will be learnt and this won't happen again...!
